NeoCon 2019 brought into sharper focus many of the themes we first saw emerge in 2018. Almost all manufacturers highlighted a variety of settings across focus and collaboration, the blurred line between work and play and the importance of hospitality, wellbeing, flexibility, and access to power. We may be biased but Knoll’s new showroom in Fulton Market blew it out of the park when it came to showcasing best-in-class planning strategies along with vibrant, enduring and elevated design - or as Florence Knoll called it “total design”. Below were our key takeaways from this design convention. BOTH/AND One big “aha” from our [...]

A conversation that impacts our clients as much as our own office, is how to best design and deliver a workspace that supports the five generations that comprise today’s workforce (Traditionalists or Maturists (before 1945), Baby Boomers (1946 – 1964) Gen X (1965-1976), Gen Y or Millennials (1977-1997), Gen Z (after 1997). Well planned shared spaces not only give employees a choice in where and how they work, but they also connect people to their space and each other. Open plan workspaces may take be tailored to specific activities or blur the lines and transform at a moment’s notice. Sheehans has adopted Knoll’s strategic approach to shared workspace office planning and follows an iterative and dynamic process to first identity the types of settings that support the work best e.g. (individual focus, secluded collaboration, team meetings, assembly, community interaction), [...]

Inspired by our recent trip to NeoCon, the commercial design industry's annual event, we wanted to share a few themes we believe are most applicable to our market and our clients. MODERN WARMTH Across our favorite showrooms, notably Knoll and Kimball, there was a common design aesthetic – Scandinavian mid-century modern office furniture with a human touch. Simple, clean modern lines made more approachable with the incorporation of wood, curves, natural elements and touches of color. MIX IT UP We've heard a lot about flexibility, adaptability and the importance of multi-use spaces. One execution of this we look forward to putting into [...]
